What is Washington, D.C. Metro Chi Alpha?

Washington, D.C. serves as our nation’s capital and is often viewed as the most powerful city in the world. It rests on the Potomac River with Virginia on the west and surrounded by Maryland in all other directions. It is a city of almost 700,000 with a metro area of over 2 million.

Most think of Washington, D.C. as a city of visitors, impressive monuments, the polarization of powerful people and ideas, fire-and-brimstone politics, military headquarters, enormous ethnic diversity, and as one of the most exciting cities on the planet.

On the flip side it can be a city of sweltering summer heat and humidity, the Rube Goldberg street plan, an agonizing lack of legal parking, and elbow-to-elbow crowds that can wipe out your high spirits before lunch.

However, to us Washington, D.C. is a city of tremendous and influential universities. The universities are the second highest employers in the city behind the federal government.

Surrounding the entire city is the I-495 beltway. With good traffic-flow it takes about an hour to drive completely around the city on I-495. When we refer to Washington, D.C. Metro we are referring to the entire beltway area. Some of our key campuses are near the beltway outside of Washington, D.C. proper.
